BARNETT, Thomas Albert Macaulay May 31, 1919 - December 28, 2009 Peacefully after a long struggle with Parkinsons. Mourned by his wife of 37 years, Marian; daughter Alyson (Bruce) Barnett-Cowan and their children Michael (Ryan), Catherine and Francesca; granddaughter Quinn; McCurdy stepchildren Patrick and daughter Chelsea, Michael (Susan) and children Matthew and Jane, Cathy (Conrad) and children Todd and Christie, and Peter (Chantal) and sons Simon, Richard and Philip; sisters Doreen, Ruth and Mary; brothers Henry (Barney), Victor and Douglas. Tom was a professor of Old Testament at Wycliffe College, Toronto and the Anglican Theological College which, with his help, became part of the Vancouver School of Theology; General Secretary of the national Student Christian Movement in Toronto; project officer with the Canadian International Development Agency in Ottawa. His crowning achievement was the publication, at the age of 85, of his translation from Hebrew of the Psalms, Songs for the Holy One. Anglican priest, rebel, intellectual, curious and astute. Funeral Friday, January 1, 2010 at the Chapel of the Epiphany, 6050 Chancellor Blvd., Vancouver. No flowers please.
