LaBelle , Terrence Leo , 59, of Hollywood, passed away February 21, 2007. Born in Hollywood, FL on December 12, 1947. He was predeceased by his parents Leo and Katherine LaBelle. He is survived by his brother Laurence (Irene) of Gainesville, FL, sister Jeanne Weyant of North Carolina, nephews Jeffrey LaBelle, Mike (Marie) LaBelle, Kenny (Diane) Weyant and Scott Weyant. Terry was a skilled lawyer, stellar base guitar player, gifted teacher and mentor and generous to a fault of his time, energy and legal skills. He lived and breathed rock and roll in a way that only those who came of age in the '60s could appreciate. By the early '70s he was a union musician who had played with Frankie Valli in Las Vegas, recorded at Muscle Shoals and was offered the role as bassist in 3 Dog Night. He declined the offer choosing instead to enroll in law school. After graduating from The Nova University School of Law in 1977 and serving as an assistant public defender, he practiced criminal defense law as a sole practitioner until the present. Noted for his blue jeans, coat and tie in court, he was widely respected by fellow lawyers and the judiciary for his courtroom skills, knowledge and swift and insightful legal analysis. Many in the legal profession acknowledge Terry as having been their mentor, having guided them through the maze of application of law to fact, having navigated them past thorny issues and taught them the intricacies of the rules of evidence. He was affectionately referred to as "The Professor" by many. He had been an adjunct professor at Nova University and taught a number of continuing legal education courses for the Florida Bar. Throughout his legal career he created and managed local bands, including "The Mulletmen" and continued to play with noted musicians, including former Rolling Stone, Mick Taylor. He was an avid sports fan of college and professional teams, loved sports cars and Formula One auto racing, and enjoyed fly fishing with his own carefully tied flies. He will be missed by the many who were drawn to him by his warm and caring manner. Visitation Sunday 4-7pm with a Prayer Service Sunday 6pm at the funeral home. Funeral Mass Monday 1:00pm at Nativity Catholic Church. Interment following at Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sierra Club, 85 Second Street, 2nd floor, San Francisco, CA 94102 or a charity of donor's choice.
