CORINNA - Teresa Poulin Kane, 55, wife of Gregory Kane, died April 13, 2009, surrounded by her large and loving family at home. She was born Sept. 24, 1953, in Bangor, the daughter of Lawrence and Grace Downey Poulin. She was raised in Ellsworth and graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1972. She graduated from the University of Maine - Machias in 1976. She was proud to earn her master's degree at the University of Maine, Orono, in 2001 and she began work on her doctorate shortly thereafter. Terri, of "Terri and Sherry," was a dedicated and enthusiastic teacher. She was involved in a number of organizations including the Maine Association of Middle Level Educators, The New England League of Middle Schools and the National Middle School Association. She traveled all over the country sharing best practices in middle level education. She was recognized by the Maine Association of Middle Level Educators as the 2009 Outstanding Middle Level Educator. She had written numerous professional articles, including co-authoring a chapter in Transforming Ourselves, Transforming Our Schools and had been making notes for a book of her own. Her true passion was in the classroom touching the lives of each and every student. Teresa attended Hartland Baptist Church for 18 years. She was generous, kind and selfless, and she was also full of laughter and fun. She will be missed by everyone who knew her. She is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, Gregory Kane; her daughter, Andrea Kane and son-in-law, Andrew Ashton; her son, Christopher Kane and daughter-in-law, Allison White Kane; her son, Ty Kane; her grandchildren, Ava Kane, Audrey Kane and Thomas Ashton; her parents, Lawrence and Grace Poulin; her four brothers and four sisters and their children, Jerry Poulin and his wife, Brenda, and their children, Thomas, Mark, Danielle and Jenny, John Poulin and partner, Karen White, and his son, Jeremy, Brian Poulin and wife, April, and their children, Amanda and Travis, Keith Poulin and his wife, Susan, and their children, Scott and Michael, Barbara Poulin Johnson and her husband, Rick, and their children, Heather and Corey, Gail Poulin Maddocks and husband, David, and children, Cindy, Michelle and Raymond, Allyson Poulin Sweeney and husband, Michael, and children, Amy, Shelby, Alyssa and Seamus, and Janis Poulin Whitney and husband, Patrick, and children, Rebecca and Kate; and special friends, Courtney and Cristin Wright. She will also be deeply missed by the extended Kane family. Friends may visit 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, at Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield. A funeral service will be held 4 p.m. Thursday, April 16, at Hartland Baptist Church, Elm Street, Hartland, with the Rev. David Michaud officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Teresa Poulin Kane Memorial Scholarship for future teachers, care of Warsaw Middle School, 167 School St., Pittsfield, ME 04967.
