Shirley Jeanne Cline was born January 15, 1923, in Wellington, KS, to Raymond and Vesta Garst Cline of Conway Springs, KS.She attended the Conway Springs elementary and high schools, graduating in 1941. She as graduated from Phillips University, Enid, OK, with a Bachelor in English and Journalism in 1945; and from Oklahoma University in 1949 with a Master of Education.On March 3, 1946, she was married to Roy H. Hale of Cherokee, OK. To this union three children were born; David Roy Hale, Jonathan Cline Hale, and Sharna Jeanne Hale.In 1948, the couple moved to Tucumcari, NM, for the beginning of the school year and spent their entire teaching careers in the Tucumcari elementary schools.She was an accomplished pianist, and had a passion for music which she passed down to her children and grandchildren.Shirley was brought up in the First Christian Church at Conway Springs and served in various capacities at the First Christian Church in Tucumcari, including teaching and music, until 1990. In December of that year she became a member of the First Baptist Church where she worked with the Women's Missionary Union and taught adults in Sunday School. She was also involved in the jail ministry at the Quay County Detention Center. She was a member of the Auxiliary of the Gideons International and served in several offices on both local and state levels.Survivors include sons David Hale and wife, Deborra of Tucumcari; Jonathan Hale and wife Brenda Brooks of Amarillo; and daughter Sharna Gibbons and husband Keith of Odessa; seven grandchildren; Daniel Hale, Dyana Hale Wood, Drew Hale, Christopher Hale, Dustin Hale, Brenna Gibbons and Aaron Gibbons; five great grandchildren, Michaela, Ethan, Corgan, Lincoln and Asher; a sister-in-law Dalice Cline of Conway Springs, KS; sister-in-law Virginia Farber of La Crescenta, CA; and four nephews.Services celebrating her life were held Tuesday January 29, 2013, at the First Baptist Church in Tucumcari. Grandchildren served as Pall Bearers. Interment followed in the Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev Keith Gibbons and Rev John Hinze officiating.Arrangements entrusted to Dunn Funeral Home of Tucumcari, NM.
