Avis de décès de Sarah-Buchan Jewell

NEEDHAM, Mass. - Sarah Buchan Jewell, 106, died Aug. 2, 2009. Born in Fort Assiniboine, Mont., the only child of Col. Fred Erskine and Laura Conger Buchan, she lived on numerous Army posts, both in the U.S. and Philippine Islands. A 1925 graduate of Wellesley College, Sally was elected president of her class. She maintained her interest in the college throughout her life, serving as a member and president of Boston Wellesley Club, as well as president of Wellesley College Students' Aid Society and president of Wellesley College Alumnae Association. She was also a longtime member of Newton (Mass.) Social Science Club and of The Country Club of Brookline, Mass., where she enjoyed golf and curling. A resident of Newton and Wellesley, Mass., and Sullivan Harbor, during her married life, she moved to North Hill, Needham, Mass., in 1990 after the death of her husband of 62 years, T. Edson Jewell Jr. Survivors include her daughters, Jane Coxe of Asheville, N.C., and Patty Russell and her husband, Harry, of Green Valley, Ariz., and Sullivan Harbor; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. A celebration of her life will be held Aug. 5 at North Hill. A service will be held at a future date at Church of the Redeemer, Sorrento.
