Sara Whitehead Williamson Sara Whitehead Williamson, of Pensacola, Florida, 75, died May 4, 2009. She was born in Tallahassee, Florida, on July 18, 1933, to Anne and Jim Whitehead. Sara graduated from Leon High School in 1951 and received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Florida State University in 1955.She received her Master of Arts degree from the University of West Florida in 1985 and taught school in various places in Florida and Alabama, including West Pensacola Elementary, the Pensacola Association of Retarded Citizens and the Episcopal Day School. Sara was a member of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, where she served on the Altar Guild, the League of Women Voters, the West Florida Canoe and Kayak Club and the Florida Trail Association.She was a life long Democrat with a firm commitment to equal rights and opportunities for all. Survivors include her husband of over 52 years, Bob Williamson; a daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Jeff Backus of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Ruthelen Williamson of Atlanta; a son, Cdr. Tom Williamson of Warsaw, Poland; and a daughter, Cathy Williamson (and partner Sherry Klein) of Los Angeles, California.She also is survived by six grandchildren, Anne Marie, Emily and Catherine Backus, Margaret and Frank Williamson and Garson Klein, as well as three sisters and their families, Maggie Rogers, Mary George Smith and Susan Broadhurst; a sister-in-law, Pat Williamson; and a beloved aunt, Maggie Sorenson. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 30th, at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, Pensacola, with the Rev. Eric Long officiating.A reception will follow in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Christopher's Episcopal Church or Covenant Hospice. The family wishes to thank Covenant Hospice, Dr. Thomas Sunnenberg, Sam's Pharmacy and all their friends for their support during this challenging time.
