Ruth E. Thomas-Bland 1932-2011 BELLOWS FALLS, VT Ruth E. Thomas-Bland, 79, a resident of Route 121 in Bellows Falls, passed away Tuesday December 13, 2011 at Grace Cottage Hospital in Townshend, Vt. Ruth was born in Wilmington, Vt., on June 5, 1932 the daughter of Joel and Edith (Lackey) Wheeler. She attended local schools and was a graduate of Hinsdale, New Hampshire High School. Ruth worked as a nurse's aide for both the Brattleboro Retreat and Linden Lodge Nursing Home for many years until her retirement so she could enjoy her home. Ruth enjoyed playing games on the computer, playing bingo and reading. She enjoyed going out to eat with friends and cherished times spent with her family especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a loving and kind woman who loved everyone she came into contact with. Ruth is survived by her son Edward Thomas and his wife Karen of Bellows Falls, her daughter Pamela Thomas and her partner Raymond Cutler of Bellows Falls, twelve grandchildren and many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her first husband Everett E. Thomas whom she married in Wilmington in 1951 and her second husband Marvin Bland whom she married in Illinois in 2006. Mr. Thomas passed away February 14, 2000 and Mr. Bland passed away August 9, 2009. She was also preceded in death by her son Steven Thomas who passed away January 21, 2008 and two daughters; Edith Smith who passed away in 1983 and Lisa Pharrie who passed away in 2010. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Ruth will be held Saturday December 17, 2011 at 12 noon at Covey & Allen Funeral Home 44 East Main Street Wilmington, Vermont Rev. L. Douglas LaPlante of the Wilmington Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will follow in the family lot in Riverview Cemetery in Wilmington. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday December 17, 2011 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon, one hour prior to the service.
