Russell G. Johnson, 77, Punta Gorda, died Sept. 26, 2002. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a former resident of Wayne, Mich., who had resided in Charlotte County since 1975, after retiring from the Wayne Fire Department as fire chief. He was a member of American Legion Post 103 in Punta Gorda, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5690 in Port Charlotte, AmVets and the Masonic Lodge in Wayne. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Jean H.; daughters Linda of Punta Gorda, and Jeanette Swanguarin and Janice Sanlor, both of Westland, Mich., and Cheryle Hopper of Romulus, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home, Punta Gorda Chapel. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
