Brockton Roy A. Conrad, 79 years, of Brockton, died Sunday, June 8, 2008, at his home, under the care of hospice. Born in Reading, a son of the late Roy and Hattie (Guy) Conrad, he was raised in Somerville. For the past 20 years, he had been a resident of Brockton, previously living in California for over 20 years, and in the Avon and Brockton area. During World War II, Roy served in the U.S. Army and he had been a member of VFW Post 1046 in Brockton. Roys career spanned the trucking industry from driving to management and he retired as manager for St. Johnsbury and Quinn Freight Lines. He loved to travel around the United States and will be remembered as a charismatic and outgoing man who was devoted to his children and grandchildren. He is survived by a daughter and five sons, Carol A. Gurner of Onset, Roy Chip Conrad III of Albany, N.Y., Mark J. Conrad of Randolph, Fredrick E. Conrad of East Bridgewater, Matthew J. Conrad of San Antonio, Texas, and Brian P. Conrad of Easton; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Harrietta Long, Jeannette Hutchinson, Patricia Desrosiers and Sara Simons. A memorial gathering will be held Thursday in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St. (Rte. 123), Brockton, 5-7 p.m. with prayers at 7 p.m. For condolences and directions, www.conleyfuneralhome.com.
