GUILDERLAND Robert J. (Bob) Angell, 81, of Evelyn Dr., Guilderland, died Wednesday, April 27, 2005 at St. Clare's Hospital. Born in Albany, N.Y. on March 18, 1924. He was the only child of Joseph J. Angell and Ella (McNamara) Angell. Bob graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in 1942. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving in the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Pacific Theaters. His ships included the almost forgotten wooden Sun Chaser's SC-1335 and SC-516. He also served on the seaplane tender AV-5 (USS Albemarle) and the net tender AN-84 (USS Naubuc). He was a life member of the Sampson World War II Navy Veterans, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the World War II Navy Memorial in Washington D.C. Also a member of Local 294 of the Teamsters. After his discharge from the U.S Navy, Bob was employed by the American Locomotion Co. After ALCO closed, he worked for McCormack Mayflower until he was hired at General Electric. He retired from GE in 1986. He was a parishioner of St. Madeleine Sophie Church. His passions included spending time with his family, hiking in the Adirondacks, watching a good basketball game and in recent years reminiscing about his naval experiences. His wife, Catherine passed away in 1999. His son, James followed in 2002. He is survived by his two daughters, Mary Ann A. Truax and her husband Jim of Knox, N.Y. Kim E Pagliara and her husband Gary of Rotterdam, N.Y. His daughter-in-law, Linda Angell of Cobleskill, N.Y. Bob also has two grandchildren, Ethan Angell and his wife Christina of Hoosick Falls, N.Y. and Tara Pagliara of Albany, N.Y. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 5216 Western Turnpike, Guilderland. Calling hours, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be held Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Agnes cemetery, Menands with full military honors.
