<!-- FH = Woodfin Funeral Chapel, (615) 893-5151 --><!-- DisplayFullObituaryText -->Robert "Bob" Harris AllenRobert Harris Allen "Bob", age 84, passed away at his residence in Jackson, TN on Saturday, December 14, 2013. Graveside funeral services will be on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. in Smyrna, TN at Mapleview Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 1-2 p.m. at Woodfin Memorial Chapel in Murfreesboro, TN. Dr. Cecil Kirk officiating.Mr. Allen was a Mason of more than 50 years. He was a member of Lodge 45 in Jackson, TN. Mr. Allen retired in 1985 from Bellsouth Telephone. He was a Life Member of the Telephone Pioneers and a past president. Mr. Allen was born in 1929 in Murfreesboro, TN to Nora Harris and William Allen. He graduated from Central High School in 1948 and attended three years at Middle Tennessee State University then enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1951. He then was sent to San Diego Boot Camp and Brainbridge, Maryland. Mr. Allen was then sent to Hospital Corporal School in Bethesda, Maryland and Operating Room Tech School and Tissue Bank School. He was then assigned to the U.S. Marines based at Camp Pendleton. He was sent to Korea in 1954. He was later assigned to the U.S.S. Grand Canyon Destroyer stationed at Norfolk, Virginia. He served for four years and was Honorably Discharged in 1955. He then returned to Middle Tennessee State University to finish his B.S. Degree in Economics and graduated in 1956 and then started his more than 30 year career with Southern Bell Telephone and retired from Bellsouth Telephone Company in 1985. He served the Middle and Western Tennessee Districts.He married Ellen Jane Carpenter in 1953 and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in August of 2013. He enjoyed camping and was an avid golfer.He is survived by his wife, Ellen Jane; two daughters, Bonnie Johnson (Mike) of Jackson, TN and Barbara Enochs (Joe) of West Plains, MO; four grandchildren, Tricia Johnson of Clarksville, TN, Bethany Johnson of Jackson, TN, Evan Enochs and Lauren Enochs of West Plains, MO; one brother, William P. Allen Jr. (Ida Lee) of Murfreesboro, TN. He was preceded in death by daughter, Bonnie Jean Allen; son, Robert H. Allen Jr. "Bobby"; granddaughter, Robin A. Enochs. Memorials may be sent to First United Methodist Church, 200 S. Church Street, Jackson, TN or Youth Town, 3641 Youthtown Road, Pinson, TN 38306.The family wishes to especially thank First United Methodist Church for all their prayers, concerns, and for Comfort Keepers.
