WEIR Robert Ellis Weir, age 89, died Sunday, February 24, 2008 in Largo, Fla. Robert was born September 30, 1918 in Hartford, but grew up in Manchester, one of nine siblings in an Irish family. He is survived by his wife, his childhood sweetheart, Marie Morsicato (Tweetie), married 68 years. Bob served in the Infantry in World War II in the European Theatre, 331st Reg, 83rd Div., where he participated in the battles of Hurtgen Forest, Ardennes, Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and ETO Campaign Medal with 3 Battle Stars. After the war, he worked as a Quality Inspector at Sikorsky Aircraft. A lifelong golfer, he was active in local and regional tournaments and Riverview Golf Club. Retired in 1973, they moved to Florida where Bob worked at Tarpon Woods Golf & Country Club as ranger, starter and teaching pro. Bob will be remembered for his ready smile and sense of humor. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Robert Weir Jr of Clearwater, Fla.; son, Richard Weir and his wife, Wendy of Milford; four grandchildren, James Weir and wife, Sheryl of Riverview, Fla., Jennifer Weir and husband, Kim Bergeron of Dublin, N.H., Christopher Weir and wife, Angela of New Market, Md. and Carrie Weir and husband, Scott Leventhal of Cheshire; eight great-grand-sons; two great-grand-daughters; and two sisters, Marjorie Bars and Jeanette Waytashek of Connecticut. He was predeceased by brothers, William, Joseph and Walter and sisters, Colleen, Edna and Ethel. A military service and burial was held in Florida.
