Ed was born in Port Alberni Dec 01, 1931 and passed away Nov 14, 2011 in Qualicum Beach. He was predeceased by his parents Eddie and Margaret Allen and is survived by Glenice, his loving wife of 54 years, sons; Bruce (Montreal) Glenn (Parksville),Steven and wife Linda (Port Alberni), daughter Leanne and husband Wayne Machan (Airdrie, AB), grandchildren; Corey Allen and wife Molly Chen, Amanda Allen, Kayleigh Bugera (Dustin), Kathlyn Machan (Travis), Rhea Frank, Courtney Allen,great-grandchildren; Jyden Frank, Mackynlee Bugera , Isabella Renaud, sister Elizabeth Wood and family and cousins; Melva and Jim Spencer (Port Alberni), Allan and Julia Paul (Victoria), Gordon and Carolyne Austin (Lake Cowichan). Edwin attended school in Alberni, Qualicum Beach College for boys, and a year at UBC. He worked with his father at his business "Allens Super Service". He was also with the volunteer fire department in Alberni. Ed went logging for a few years after leaving the garage business. In 1968 he joined the Port Alberni Fire Department and was there until his retirement in 1991. He was a third generation firefighter. His father was Fire Chief in Alberni as was his uncle, Sandy Gilmour. Ed spent many happy hours fishing and would drive a logging truck for anyone needing a driver. He ran Commander Charters for a few years. He was also a member of the Alberni Valley Curling Club. After moving to the Parksville-Qualicum area Ed was a member of the Oceanside Power Squadron group and the Parksville Curling Club. A Celebration of Ed's life will be held at 2:00pm Nov. 25th at Yates Reception Hall, 4470 Gertrude St. Port Alberni.YATES FUNERAL SERVICE & CREMATORIUM (250-248-5859) in care of arrangements.
