Jacob, Richard J. SCOTIA Richard J. Jacob, 89, of Cambridge Manor Drive, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at Ellis Hospital. Richard was born March 19, 1918 in Schenectady, a son of the late Walter and Rose Houlihan Jacob. He was educated in Schenectady schools and was a graduate of the former Mont Pleasant High School. Richard then went to receive a bachelor's degree in economics from Siena College. While in high school and college, he played on the school's basketball teams. Richard faithfully served in the U.S. Army during World War II as an x-ray technician. He was employed by General Electric's Research & Development Center, where he was manager of the purchasing and stock rooms, retiring in 1982. Richard was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Glenville, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, GE Quarter Century Club, L'Allego Dance Group, Scotia-Glenville Senior Citizens, Annie Schaffer Bowling League, and Siena College's Alumni Association. Husband of the late Mary Jane Murphy Jacob, who died February 7, 1988; also predeceased by his brother, Robert Jacob. Survivors include his wife, Norma Crookes Jacob; two daughters, Joan E. Hamelin and her husband Bruce of Niskayuna and Mary Behling and her husband Donald of Tenn.; a stepson, Richard R. Crookes and his wife Diana of Saratoga; two grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan Street, Schenectady, then to Immaculate Conception Church, 400 Saratoga Road, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery Mausoleum, Niskayuna. A calling hour will be held from 8 to 9:15 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Memorial contributions may be made in Richard's name to the Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12308 or to the Immaculate Conception Church, 400 Saratoga Road, Glenville, NY 12302.
