Avis de décès de Robert-J. Ferrier


JEFFERSON -- Robert J. "Bob" Ferrier, 95, died Thursday, May 17, 2012, at his home following a long illness. He was born in Paterson, N.J., on Nov. 18, 1916, a son of the late George W. and Eugenie (Tice) Ferrier. He was a graduate of Pompton Lakes High School in New Jersey, class of 1934, and Trenton State College, class of 1939. Later, he received a master's degree in administration, industrial arts and vocational education from Rutgers University. Bob was a teacher in New Jersey for more than 30 years, retiring in 1974 after 22 years in the Pompton Lakes school system. A number of his former students kept in touch with him for more than 50 years -- testimony to the positive impact he had made on them.Drafted into the U.S. Army in 1941, Bob served in the European theater during World War II, and attained the rank of master sergeant. After moving to Maine in 1974, Bob became an active member of St. Giles' Episcopal Church in Jefferson, and last year, the church presented him with an engraved plaque of appreciation for his decades of service. He was also active in the Young at Heart Senior Citizens group and the Kennebec Valley Beagle Club. Bob was predeceased by his wife, Emily D. (Cranch) Ferrier; and his sister, Eugenie Van Dyke. He is survived by two daughters, Lucy Norman and her husband, Don, and Genie Dailey and her husband, Jim, all of Jefferson; a brother-in-law, Edmund T. Cranch, and his wife, Virginia; as well as two nieces and two nephews. Relatives and friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 24, at Plummer Funeral Home, Windsor Chapel, 983 Ridge Road, Route 32, Windsor. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 25, at St. Giles' Church, 72 Gardiner Road (Route 126), Jefferson. Burial and committal prayers will follow in Highland Cemetery, also on Gardiner Road in Jefferson. Those who desire may make donations in Bob's memory to St. Giles' Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 34, Jefferson, ME 04348; or to HealthReach Hospice, MaineGeneral Health Office of Philanthropy, P.O. Box 828, Waterville, ME 04903-0828.
