OBITUARY PIERRE OUVRARD, C.M., R.C.A. 1929-2008 In Montreal on Friday, September 5, 2008 passed away at the age of seventy-nine Mr. Pierre Ouvrard. Born in Quebec City on February 8, 1929, son of Jean Ouvrard dit Laperriere and of Bernadette Boily, he studied at College Jean-de-Brebeuf and then attended in 1943 the Ecole des Arts graphiques. In 1948, he cofounded the Association professionnelle des artisans du Quebec (APAQ). In 1949, he founded and owned along with Mr. Marcel Beaudoin the Ouvrard and Beaudoin Bookbinding Workshops; thereafter, he became the manager of the Gazette's bookbinding department; and in 1973, he moved his home and workshop to Saint-Paul-de-l'Ile-aux-Noix where he praticed his art. From 1974 to 1982, he sat on the board of Papeterie St-Gilles; since 1980, he has been an honorary member of Metiers d'art du Quebec. In 1979, he was the first bookbinder to enter the Royal Academy. In 1983, he became member of the Order of Canada. In 2006, he received the "Prix Louis-Philippe Beaudoin d'excellence en communication graphique" from Ahuntsic College in recognition of a lifetime dedicated to the art of bookbinding. His wife, relatives, friends and all those who worked with him will his remember generous nature that was both humble and proud. The family will receive condolences at Magnus Poirier Funeral Complex, 6825 Sherbrooke St. East, Montreal, on Monday, September 8, 2008 from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, September 9 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. and Wednesday, September 10 as of 9 a.m. A farewell ceremony will take place Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the chapel of the funeral complex.
