Norman, Nancy JoAug. 9, 1960 - Jan. 20, 2010Nancy Jo Norman, 49, of Sarasota, formerly of Grosse Pointe, Mich., died Jan. 20, 2010.Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel. Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Bilyeu; a son, Petie; her parents, Nancy Walker-Kahle and Larry Kahle; sisters Lois Ellen, Juliette Kay McMillan, Laurie Kahle-Elicone and Susan Leah Norman-Bricken; and a brother, William Walker.Nancy Jo Norman was given eternal life on Jan. 20, 2010. A devout Christian, her beloved Lord now "has her back." Nancy grew up in Grosse Pointe and spent a month each summer in Greenville, Ala., with many cherished family members. She was brilliant! At age 17, she attended Berklee College of Music, went on to the University of Tampa, and ultimately earned her baccalaureate from the Honors College of Oakland University in Rochester, Mich. She had a passion for music and played several instruments -- by ear. She was also a talented sculptress, photographer, painter and poet. She was very proud of earning her FCC license in the 1980s. Nancy Jo had a free and gentle spirit and could light up a room with her smile. She loved horses, dogs, swimming and sailing. She was an accomplished barrel racer and once sailed all the way from New York to the Caribbean with only two other crewmates. She was an Annie Oakley when she rode, and a pirate when she sailed. Though she traveled extensively, having visited Granada, Costa Rica, England, Ireland and Wales, her single biggest joy was raising her beloved daughter, Nancy Bilyeu. Nancy Jo was a self-taught gourmet cook. She had a kind and generous heart and will be dearly missed. Donations may be made to Adult Camps of America, which was her lifelong dream to establish. A celebration of her life will be held immediately following the service.
