MISSOULA - Melba Helen (Wayland) Lozeau passed away Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, at home with her daughters at her side.She was born Aug. 11, 1920, in Plains (Swamp Creek). At an early age, her family moved to Hamilton, where she went to grade school and graduated from high school. After school, she went to work for the telephone company.In 1944, she met Henry (Hank) Lozeau and they were married April 19, 1945. Hank was in the Navy for 20 years, and during that time two daughters were born, Teri Annette and Toni Laurene. Melba and the girls followed Hank as they traveled to Japan and many U.S. states during his military years. In 1960, Hank retired from the Navy and they moved back to Montana to be with their families.Melba was a homemaker and raised their two daughters and helped raise the grandchildren.After Hank retired for the second time with the Army Reserves, they traveled the country visiting their friends from the military.When Hank passed away in 1991, Melba lost her best friend and soul mate.Melba is survived by her two daughters, Teri (Jim) Keck of Helena and Toni Lozeau of Missoula; brother, Tony (Bobbie) Wayland of Helena; brother-in-law, Howard (Claudia) Lozeau of Kalispell; grandchildren, Tana (Jason) Westfall of Kiowa, Colo., Jamie (Lori) Keck of Helena and Troy Osburn of Eureka; great-grandchildren, Trevin, Taylor and T.J.; and grand pets, Max, Butler and Hector.She is also survived by longtime school mate and dear friend, May Potter, and special nieces, nephews and cousins.A memorial service to celebrate Hank and Melba's life together will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, at Garden City Funeral Home. The pastor Tom King will officiate.
