Mary Virginia Hardin WatkinsDecaturMary Virginia Hardin Watkins, 92, of Decatur died October 8, 2010, at Parkway Medical Center in Decatur. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with Dr. Bill Hurt and Associate Pastor Roger Jenkins officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Padgett Watkins Sr. of Decatur and her parents, Dewey and Sarah Pernie Hardin.Survivors include her son, Harold Padgett Watkins Jr. of Tuscaloosa, her grandson, Harold Padgett Watkins III of Tuscaloosa and her granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Miesse (Seth) of Tuscaloosa as well as a host of other family members and friends.She was a loving mother and grandmother. Mrs. Watkins was born in Jasper and retired Kappa Alpha housemother at The University of Alabama. Among her many accomplishments in life, she helped found the Sub Deb Sorority at Decatur High School and the Green Thumb Garden Club. She was past president of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and member of First Baptist Church of Decatur.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to The University of Alabama Scholarship fund or charity of donor's choice.
