Mary M. O'Malley, 67 SOUTH PORTLAND -Mary M. O'Malley, 67, of South Portland, died peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, June 19, 2005 at the South Portland Nursing Home, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Portland on Nov. 17, 1937, she was the daughter of Mr. Thomas J. and Mrs. Mary Malia O'Malley. Attending local Portland schools, Mary attended the St. Dominic's grammar school and graduated from Portland High School, Class of 1956. For most of her working life, Mary was as a housekeeper for Maine Medical Center for over 35 years, retiring in 1995.Mary absolutely loved taking chances, and her love of the Maine State Lottery and her interest in instant scratch tickets and horse racing allowed her to take those chances most of the time. She loved to go on bus tours; some of her favorite trips include trips to Canada, Washington D.C., and, who could have guessed it, Fox Woods Casino.Though Mary was never married, her family was the love of her life, especially her nephew and great-nephew.Mary is survived by her sister, Sally; a nephew, Joseph; a great-nephew, Joseph II; a brother-in-law, Gene; many cousins; and her cat Tabby. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister Theresa. Mary's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the many people who cared for Mary in her final days. Special thanks go out to the staff at the Gibson Wing at MMC, the Scarborough cancer center, the hospice nurses, the South Portland Nursing home, as well as the Medical Team of Dr. Aronson, Dr. Abowrjaily, and Dr. McNeil. Service for Mary will be private with an interment at a later date. Mary M. O'MalleyHay - PeabodyFuneral Home & Cremation Service772-5463
