Kirby, Mary Florence GreenwoodJune 13, 1914 - Aug. 27, 2007Mary Florence Greenwood Kirby, 93, Venice, formerly of Picture Rocks, Pa., died Aug. 27, 2007, at her home.No services are scheduled at her request. Arrangements by the National Cremation Society and Gulf Pines Memorial Park. Survivors include daughters Jo-Anne Kirby of Venice, Ellen Winner of Fletcher, N.C., and Edith Markle of Tucson, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandsons.She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Richard D. Kirby, who died Jan. 31, 2007.After moving to Venice in 1982, Mary was an active volunteer for the American Cancer Society, the Sarasota County Library and the Green Butterfly. Her greatest gift to her family and friends was her delightful, spontaneous sense of humor. Her husband said that she made him laugh every day. Her children and grandchildren are so grateful to have benefited from her wit and wisdom for so many years."I am the master of my fate. I am the captain of my soul."Contributions may be made in Mary's name to the American Cancer Society, the Green Butterfly or TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care.
