Mary Ellen Hughes Hahn, 100, of Oak Ridge, died Saturday, May 10, 2014, in NHC Health Care Center, where she had resided since October 2008.A native of Virginia, she was born in Clifton Forge in 1913 and spent her early married life in Covington. She moved to Oak Ridge in 1943 as part of a family business that played a major role in the feeding of 100,000 new people involved in the overnight growth of the area formerly known as Black Oak Ridge.Mrs. Hahn was a cherished member of her family and that of her late husband, Harry J. Hahn, who died in 1993. He joined her in Oak Ridge at the end of World War II after serving in the U.S. Army.She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Betty Joan Hazelwood Hahn, Kingston, whose husband Harry J. Hahn Jr., died in 2002; daughter, Barbara Hahn Lawson and son-in-law Lewis Lawson, University Park, Md.; and daughter-in-law, Mary Louise Hahn, Cleveland, Ohio, whose husband, Richard H. Hahn, died in 2013. She is also survived by five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.Mrs. Hahn was an avid bird watcher who also delighted in collecting wild flowers and maintaining her own gardens.Burial services at Oak Ridge Memorial Park will be private. The family requests that donations in Mrs. Hahn's memory be made to a charity which supports her love of nature.Weatherford Mortuary, Oak Ridge, is in charge of arrangements.
