CUMMING Margaret M. Cumming, formerly of Milford, died on Friday, November 2, 2001, at the Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center in Palm Coast, Fla. Born on November 10, 1914, in Walden, N.Y., to Samuel and Mary MacRae Dowds, Peg grew up in Bridgeport. She was graduated from Warren Harding High School at the age of 16, and was employed as a customer service representative for AT&T until she married Russell Elwood Cumming on October 16, 1937. The couple settled in Devon, where they lived for almost 60 years. A 30-year member and enthusiastic advocate of Girl Scouting, Peg served on both the building and campership committees for camps Trefoil and Katoya. She was a founding member of the Devon Garden Club and also served as a volunteer for more than 25 years in the Milford Chapter of the American Red Cross. Peg is survived by her three daughters, Lynne Cumming Fjellbo of Palm Coast, Fla., Heather Cumming Gaugh of Webster, N.Y., and Bonnie Cumming Sims of Fairfield. She had five grandchildren: Michelle D. Gaugh of Rochester, N.Y., Laura M. Gaugh of Chicago, Jessica L. Gaugh of Webster, N.Y., Shannon R. Sims of Clifton, N.J., and Jennifer L. Sims of Trumbull; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Her surviving siblings include three brothers, Murdo M. Dowds of Weymouth, Mass., Colin V. Dowds of Oklawaha, Fla., and Robert R. Dowds of Parrish, Fla. She was predeceased by her husband, Russell E. Cumming; and by her sisters, Una Fowler, Elma Kadel, Heather Kunkel, Flora Dowds and Elsie Dowds. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 6, 2002, at noon, at the United Church of Christ Congregational, 30 Ormond Street, Devon. In lieu of flowers, friends are invited to make donations to the Camp Buddies and Pals fund of the Housatonic Girl Scout Council, 87 Washington Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06604, or to the United Church of Christ Congregational, 30 Ormond Street, Devon, CT 06460, or to a charity of their choice. Craig Funeral Home, Palm Coast, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.
