KENDALL, Mary KatyleeneStovall (Mrs. Ralph J.) 98, aresident of Wetumpka, AL,died on Thursday, June 7,2007. Since December 2003,she has lived, along with hersister, Ruth Stovall, in thehome of her daughter, MaryElizabeth Kendall Dunn andher husband, Dr. Julius E.Dunn, Jr., in Wetumpka. Funeral services will be held atTrinity Episcopal Church, Wetumpka, on Sunday, June 10,2007 at 2:00 P.M. with theReverend Ben Alford officiating, along with the ReverendAlbert Perkins, the ReverendHoyt Winstlett, and the Reverend Patrick Dunn. Visitationwill be in the chapel at TrinityEpiscopal Church on Saturday, June 9, from 6:00 to 8:00P.M, with Gassett FuneralHome, directing. Burial will beheld at Greenwood Cemetery, Montgomery, AL. Bornon August 30, 1908, she wasthe fifth child of the six children of the late Reverendand Mrs. James B. Stovall (Effie Elizabeth Fowler). She wasmarried to the Reverend Doctor Ralph Jones Kendall for 56years before his death in1987. Their two daughters areSarah Louise Kendall Dunn(William B.) and Mary Elizabeth Kendall Dunn (Dr. JuliusE. (Beau÷), all of Wetumpka.She is survived by one sister,Ada Ruth Stovall of Wetumpka. She was preceded indeath by her parents; herbrother, Samuel Drewry Stovall; her sisters: ChimintneyStovall Thomas, Zeila StovallSteele, and Willard StovallLee. Her seven grandchildrenare Dr. Sarah Kendall Dunn(Dr. John Buettner), Montgomery; Margaret BerridgeDunn Darnell (Michael),Madison, Alabama; WilliamBerridge Dunn, Jr. (Dr. Cheri),Santa Rosa Beach, Florida;Katyleene Kendall DunnMcCall (Scott), Kent; ElizabethStovall Dunn Puckett (Jeff),Wetumpka; Dr. Walter Moreland Dunn (Emily), Birmingham, Alabama; and Josephine Hogan Dunn Borer (Dr.Cory), Sheldon, Iowa. She hasfifteen great-grandchildren.They are Amy Catherine Darnell, David Michael Darnell,Jonathan Kendall McCall,Amanda Margaret Darnell,James Turner McCall, Dawson Kendall Buettner, DanielAaron Darnell, Julia RuthMcCall, Laurel Dunn Buettner,Mary Margaret Borer, VirginiaStovall Puckett, William DunnBorer, William Stovall Dunn,Ada Louise Borer and Carolyn Elizabeth Dunn. Mrs. Kendall grew up in Brent, Alabama. At Bibb County HighSchool, she was the valedictorian of her class. She was arecipient of a four year scholarship given by The Birmingham News to attend Alabama College for Women, nowthe University of Montevallo.Graduating with honors, shewas a charter member ofKappa Delta Pi, honoraryeducational fraternity. Shewas the first Home EconomicsEducation student to presenta senior recital in piano. Aftergraduation she moved toEutaw, Alabama. In the fall of1929 the vocational HomeEconomics department ofGreene County High Schoolopened for the first time under the guidance of Katyleene Stovall. She taughtHome Economics during thegreat depression and theyears of World War II. She alsobecame the organist at theFirst Presbyterian Church. In1931 she married the Reverend Dr. Kendall, who was therector of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Eutaw. Aftertheir marriage she becamethe organist at St. Stephen'sChurch for approximately 40years. During the 1950s shebegan teaching piano aswell as teaching the 4thgrade music class at EutawGrammar School. For severalyears she was instrumental inorganizing and accompanying the Community Choir inHandel's (The Messiah÷ andother musical classics. Shewas chosen to be one of (Alabama's Gracious Ladies,÷and was also selected asGreene County's (Mother ofthe Year.÷ In 1972, she andher husband retired andmoved to Wetumpka, Alabama, to be closer to theirdaughters, their husbands,and grandchildren. Shetaught piano to all seven ofher grandchildren and manyother students for severalyears. She presented her ownstudents for competition aswell as being selected as ajudge for numerous competitions. Mrs. Kendall was amember of the Alabama Music Teachers Association andthe National Guild of Pianoteachers as well the Montgomery Music Study Club,the Montgomery PianoTeachers Association, and theWetumpka Fine Arts Club.Throughout the years shelived in Wetumpka, shewould substitute for herdaughter, Mary Elizabeth ((Ebba÷) Dunn, as organist atTrinity Episcopal Church. Afew years after the death ofher husband, she moved toMontgomery to live with hersister, Ruth Stovall, until MissStovall's illness made it difficult for them to live together.Mrs. Kendall, a dedicatedChristian, was a kind, loving,and devoted wife and mother, who was loved and respected by everyone whoknew her. Pallbearers will beWilliam B. Dunn, Jr., Dr. WalterM. Dunn, Dr. John Buettner,Michael Darnell, ScottMcCall, Jeff Puckett, and Dr.Cory Borer. The family wasblessed to have loving anddevoted sitters during the lastyears of her life while living inher daughter's home. Theywere Earlean Coleman, Evelyn Hunt, Terina Jackson, Angela Jones, and Shelby Lambert. Also appreciated wasthe tremendous support provided by Helping Hearts Hospice. In lieu of flowers, thefamily requests that memorials be made to Trinity Episcopal Church Building Fund,5375 U. S. Highway 231, Wetumpka, AL 36092.
