FARRELL, MARY JANE GRIMESMary Jane Grimes Farrell died of cancer on April 8, 2005 at age of 70 at her Irvington, NY home. She was editor and general manager of the Irish Echo Newspaper Corp. before serving as director of Public Information at the College of New Rochelle. She was a founder of the Rivertowns Peace Center while serving as director of Public Relations at Mercy College. Mary became associate director of the Inner-City Scholarship Fund of the Archdiocese of New York and was a founding member and sixth president of the Association of Women in Communications of Westchester County and recipient of its prestigious Matrix Award. Born in New York City, the daughter of Patrick J. and Beatrice Cassidy Grimes she was educated at The College of New Rochelle and earned a M.A. from Teacher's College of Columbia University. After College she earned a pilot's license to fly seaplanes. A longtime resident of Irvington, NY, she focused her energy on the town. Until her recent illness she sang in the Immaculate Conception Church choir and was active in parish activities. She was a member of the League of Women Voters and board member of the Irvington Library. She is survived by her husband Thomas F. Farrell and their children Matthew and his wife Jeannine of Irvington, Maura of Dobbs Ferry and Brendan and Stacie of Norfolk, VA; grandchildren, Julianne, Tommy and Tighe, and Gavin and Quinn; brother Patrick and his wife Arlayne; sister-in-law Claire, wife of the late John Grimes; brother-in-law Frank and his wife Peggy, sister-in-law Anne; and many nieces and nephews. Mary's family will welcome friends and family at COFFEY FUNERAL HOME, INC. on Sunday from 7-9 pm and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10:30 on Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Church, Irvington with interment at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Sleepy Hollow.
