John L.Esposito, M.D., 61 PORTLAND - Dr. John L. Esposito, 61, of Walton Court, died Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2005 at a local hospital after a long illness.He was born in Portland a son of Louis J. and Angelina DiDominicus Esposito. He attended Portland schools graduating from Portland High School. He also was a graduate of Bowdoin College (Magna Cum Laude) with a bachelor of arts degree in biology and chemistry. He did his undergraduate research fellowship in biochemistry. In 1970, he received M.D. degree from Columbia University. His internship in Internal Medicine was at St. Luke's Hospital Center in New York from 1970-1971, his residency was in anatomic pathology at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Massachusetts from 1975 - 1977.Dr. Esposito served two years active duty with the US Army Medical Corps as a General Medical Officer (Captain) for eights months in the Republic of South Vietnam and sixteen months at Ft. Deven's, Mass.Dr. Esposito also was research assistant at the Department of Endrocrinology at MMC in 1973 where wrote a research paper on polypeptide hormones. He served as Medical House Physician at Mercy Hospital in 1974 and later in 1978 he served as Medical Rating Officer for Disability Evaluation at the US Veteran's Administration Hospital, Togus.He was a communicant of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church.Besides his mother, Angelina Esposito Stuckart of Portland, he leaves a sister, Lucy A. Esposito of Portland; three brothers, Dr. Anthony L. Esposito of Auburndale, Mass, Joseph D. Esposito of Portland, and Louis J. Esposito, Jr., of Calais; six nieces and nephews; three grandnieces and nephews. There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday Aug. 20, at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Federal Street, Portland.
