MAIN, Lloyd Donald Died peacefully on November 8, 2010 in Victoria, BC. He was born in Victoria on July 11, 1917 to parents, George and Isabella Main, their first child born after immigrating from Scotland. Lloyd was predeceased by brothers, George, William, Alexander and Thomas and sisters, Elspeth, Isabelle and Madelina. Lloyd will be sorely missed by his family, his wife of 64 years, Margaret; his children, Laureen Evans (Dan, Chris and Mike); Trish Main (Barry, Allison and Kathleen Hammell); Marian Kirk (Roger, Bryannie and Jillian) and Don Main (Mckenzie and Kennedy) and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many good friends. Lloyd attended Cloverdale Elementary School, Mt. View High School, Craigdarroch (McGill University) and Victoria Normal School. During the war years, he joined the military and went to Yarrows to assist with ship building of which he was very proud. Returning to school at war's end, he graduated in education from the University of British Columbia. He began his exemplary teaching career in the Peace River country, returning to Victoria to marry, raise a family and continue his career. Lloyd was principal of numerous Victoria elementary schools: Gordon Head, View Royal, North Ward, Lampson Street, Sir James Douglas, Willows and Doncaster. He loved weekend golfing at Uplands and a round at St. Andrews was a highlight. Lloyd was active in the community, serving as an elder at First United Church, with the Music Festival Society, being a Free Mason, playing and watching sports and in later years, holding court at Tim Horton's. If you needed a lift, Lloyd would have a joke and words of encouragement at the ready. A son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather, educator, golfer, bridge player, gardener and sports enthusiast, Lloyd always put people before things or institutions. To the end, he spoke to everyone, no matter their condition, position or manner. As an educator, he touched the lives of many. If he taught you, he likely remembered your name just as he remembered the many colleagues with whom he worked. He always said that teaching was about people and he made sure he knew them all. The last months of Lloyd's life were spent at Mt. Tolmie Hospital. A special thank you to all those who showed such great care and compassion towards Lloyd and his family. A service in memory of Lloyd will be held in MCCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson & Vancouver Streets on Friday, November 26 at 3:00 PM. A reception will follow in the McCall's Family Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a youth charity of your choice. Condolences for the family may be offered at www.mccallbros.com 610133
