Linda Thomas MARBLEHEAD Linda Thomas, 63,of Marblehead, quietly transitioned into a better life on Aug. 17. Linda died at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) after eight months of endless suffering. Although Linda experienced one complication after another, while waiting for a kidney/liver transplant due to polycystic kidney/liver disease, she truly believed she would receive the gift of transplant. She fought hard and never gave up hope.Lin graduated from Brattleboro Union High School in 1965 and earned a Bachelor's degree in Nursing from Keuka College in 1969. She earned a Master's degree in Health Education from Boston University in 1974. She earned a Master's degree in Nursing and became a Nurse Practitioner from The Institute of Health Professionals in 1998. Linda spent her entire career at MGH (41+ years). She was on the Neurological/Medical/Surgical service as a staff nurse from 1969- 1970. From 1970-1984 she was an Instructor at the MGH Shepard Gill School of Practical Nursing (SGS) as well as the Clinical Coordinator. After the SGS closed, Linda returned to staff nursing on the Gynecology/Oncology Surgical service from 1985-1986. The following year, Linda became a Nurse Recruiter for MGH. In 1987 Linda joined the Occupational Health Service (OHS) as a staff nurse. From 1998 - present, Linda was an Occupational Nurse Practitioner for OHS. Linda was also certified as an Occupational Health Nurse Case Manager, and as an Occupational Health Nurse Specialist. Linda always wanted to be a nurse, and she loved every moment of her career. Linda had many passions and one was Boston Terriers. Peter, then special Betty, and finally Peggy made her life whole. Linda also loved Marblehead and being "at the beach." Linda waited 16 years for a mooring - once that happened, she purchased a Boston Whaler, SPLASH, and had many happy hours on the water. Marblehead was Linda's home for 37 years. Linda and her sister opened a bed and breakfast in Marblehead in 2003. Due to illness, 17 CHESTNUT STREET B&B closed this year. Linda loved meeting and caring for the guests. All entered as strangers and left as friends. Linda was predeceased by her brother, the Rev. Cannon David P. Thomas (Dec. 2009), her father, E. Gordon Thomas (2000) and her mother, Lucile P. Thomas (1991). Linda is survived by her twin sister, Suzanne, of Marblehead, her sister-in-law, Susan Thomas, of West Grove, Pa., and her nieces, Katherine R. Thomas of Asheville, N.C. and Sarah E. Stephenson and her husband, Ryan M. Stephenson, and two great nieces, Libby and Riley Stephenson, all of Middletown, Pa. Linda leaves endless friends and a sisterhood of seven. FUNERAL NOTICE: A graveside service and burial will be held on Saturday, Aug. 27 at noon at Morningside Cemetery in Brattleboro, Vt.. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, Aug. 29, at the Marblehead Yacht Club from 5 p.m. until sundown. The last formal Celebration of Life will take place at MGH some time in September. Details will eventually be posted in the MGH Hotline.
