Kathleen Virginia Burt Thomas, 86, of Roanoke, formerly of Botetourt County, passed Monday, July 4, 2005.A member of Vinton Baptist Church, she was a Sunday School teacher for 30 years. She was a graduate of James Madison University, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree, and later received a Master of Education degree in school administration from Radford University. As an educator, she taught Home Economics at William Byrd High School for eight years. She was at Check High School, Check, Va., for three years.Mrs. Thomas retired from Lord Botetourt High School, Daleville, Va., in 1985, after 27 years of service. While there, she was a mathematics teacher, guidance counselor and Assistant Principal. Her various memberships in educational and civic organizations included the National Education Association, the Virginia Education Association, the Botetourt Education Association, Delta Kappa Gamma and the Daughters of the American Revolution.Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Allen K. Thomas Sr.; sons and daughters-in-law, Allen K. Thomas Jr. and Elva Thomas of Greenville, S.C., Joseph R. Thomas and Lynn Thomas of Plano, Texas, and William A. Thomas and Patty Thomas of Fincastle, Va.; a grandson, David Allen Thomas and wife, Karla, of Greenville, S.C.Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 7, 2005, at Oakey's North Chapel. Dr. Robert Wayne will officiate. Interment will be in Evergreen Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening at Oakey's North Chapel, Roanoke, 540-362-1237.
