REID, Kathleen July 29, 1914 to April 26, 2009. A mother to many, and a friend to all, is now in the front row in heaven. After a short stay in the Heart Institute cared for by a great staff and visited by countless friends and family, Kay passed away peacefully. Her children Roma (Bill), Frank (Louise) and Ross (Susan) were united as family to the end and have many fond memories of their mother. She was predeceased by her husband Clifford, her brothers Harry (Ruth), Chet (Thelma), Donald (Marie, Lin). She is survived by her brother Melville (Doris) and sister Marguerite (Rolfe). She was blessed to have loving grandchildren who share her optimism and good humour. Her special gifts live on through Steven, Sally, Shelley and Lauren. Grandma Reid was the Great Grandma to Cora, Ava, Shayla, Ashley, Trinity, Akiva, Nolan and Arabella. She was Aunt Kay to many nieces and nephews. Special mention to Nora and Dale who spent countless hours with their second Mom at the hospital bedside. Mrs. Reid was a mother and a teacher who had her share of set backs that included family illness but she never lost her positive approach to life. She traveled and enjoyed people and adventures. She has been an active member at Parkdale United Church for 50 years and leaves behind many friends. Mrs. Reid/Aunt Kay/Kay has a long list of very special friends (family) that deserve to be mentioned since they defined her spirit. The list includes Connie, Henri, Joyce, Francis, Margaret, Fiona, Stephanie, Andrew, Alma, Rosemary, Genevieve and Robyn. She will be remembered by these people and many more for her colourful celebrations including her festive outdoor Christmas lights and the Canada Day teddy bear picnic on Clarendon Avenue that highlighted her fun personality and desire to bring smiles to those around her. A celebration of her life will be held at Parkdale United Church on May 9 at 1:00 pm with a reception in the church hall after the service. Please bring your pictures and stories. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Ottawa Heart Institute or to Parkdale United for their In from the Cold Ministry or the School Breakfast Program. Condolences, tributes or donations may be made at www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com. Published in the Ottawa Citizen from 4/29/2009- 4/30/2009
