CHARLES LORING JOSLIN, Jr. Cdr., USN (ret.) Age 81, of North Palm Beach, Florida and Brevard, North Carolina, passed away suddenly Sunday afternoon, March 9, 2003 at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center. Mr Joslin was the son of Charles Loring Joslin, M.D. and Hester Riddle. He was born on November 5, 1921 in Baltimore, Maryland. Mr. Joslin attended Polytechnic High School's A-Course in Baltimore and graduated from the U.S. Navel Academy in Annapolis, MD in 1943, U.S. Naval Academy Postgraduate School in 1951, and MIT graduate school in 1952. He served on the USS Denver in World War II, followed by flight training as a night fighter pilot. He was Commanding Officer of All-Weather Squadron 74 aboard the USS Intrepid from 1959 to 1961. He retired in 1963 from the U.S. Navy and served for 20 years at Pratt-Whitney Aircraft in Palm Beach Gardens. He was a member of the United States Naval Academy Alumni Association, Pratt-Whitney Retirees Club, and the Society of the Sigma XI for Encouragement of Scientific Research, an honorary society. Survivors include his beloved wife of 56 years, Anne Strauff Joslin; his loving children: Charles L. Joslin III and wife, Norma, of North Palm Beach, FL, Michael E. Joslin and wife, Pam, of Buladean, NC, Hunter J. Joslin and Georgette Akai of Melbourne Beach, FL, and Loretta A. Joslin of Kennesaw, GA; two sisters: Mary Margaret Jones of Texas and Light Henderson of Maryland; his seven adored grandchildren: Kimmell, Skip, Jessica, Shellby, Blanche, Dylan, and Mitchell; and great-granddaughter, Page. Charles was preceded in death by his daughter, Anne Bevan Joslin, in 1983. A memorial mass will be celebrated 3:00 PM Monday, March 17, 2003 at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, 10970 SR A1A, North Palm Beach, with Rev. Fr. Arthur Venezia as celebrant. Final resting place will be at the U.S. Navel Academy Cemetery, Annapolis, MD.
