GARCIA, Jose Ydalberto, 97, of Tampa, passed away December 10, 2008. A native of Esperanza, Cuba, and resident of Tampa since 1973, Mr. Garcia was a veteran of World War II, Patton' s 5th Army and served in Italy and Northern Africa. He was forever thankful to President Harry S. Truman for ending the war, since he was in route to the Pacific Arena when Armistice was declared. He valued his US citizenship greatly and appreciated all the wonderful things that life bestowed on him, good health, a loving family, loyal friends and plenty of work which kept him busy to nearly the very end. Everyone who entered his home was welcomed. He was always ready to offer a shot of whiskey and good cheer. Survivors include his daughter, Gladys G. Garcia; grandsons, Matthew Trumino and Robby Terri; and cousins, Rolando DeArmas and Maria Garcia. The family will receive friends 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of JGR Funeral Home. Graveside services with military honors will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, January 15, at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla. The family wishes to thank the staff at Buena Vida Assisted Living Facility for the loving care and attention he received there and we will forever be grateful. Please send in lieu of flowers donations to LifePath Hospice, 3010 W. Azeele St. Tampa, Fl. 33609 in memory of Mr. Garcia.
