Garcia-Lavin, Jose M., 84, of Fort Lauderdale, FL, passed away on September 13, 2010. "Joche" as he was affectionately known by many, was born in Camaguey province, in the town of Camajuani, Cuba on March 22, 1926. He was the only son of Aurora Fonts and Ramon Garcia-Lavin. He graduated from Belen Jesuit School in Havana, Cuba 1945 and University of Havana College of Architecture 1950 . After graduating from the University, he established his own Architectural firm, Garcia-Lavin Quintana. In addition to designing numerous private residences he was involved in architectural restoration of several historical buildings in Havana. Joche, married his beloved wife of 55 years, Siria Pasalodos, on June 25, 1955 in Havana, Cuba. He brought his family to the United States from Cuba in November 1960. Joche, had a dedication and passion for life that carried into his architectural works as well as settling his family into a new homeland in South Florida. When he arrived he worked for Robert Hansen Architectural firm prior to starting his own firm, Jose M. Garcia-Lavin, Architect Planner, PA. Some of his projects included the Atlantic Federal building, St. Clements Catholic Church and numerous other projects. He was a member of AIA and St. Anthony Catholic Church. He will be greatly missed by many friends and family members. He is survived by his loving wife, Siria. Children: Ralph Govin (Candy), Siria Tatum (Tom), Ramon Garcia-Lavin (Elizabeth), Cristina Rowand (Keith). Grandchildren: Sean Govin (Kathy), Marisa Govin, James Govin (Mary), Sarah Ritchie (Charles), T.J. Tatum, Elizabeth Tatum, Emilie Rowand, Caroline Rowand, Alejandro Garcia-Lavin, Marcos Garcia-Lavin. Great Grandchildren: Catherine Govin and Noah Govin. Visitation at the funeral home will be 4:00pm-8:00pm Friday, September 17th, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2010, at St Anthony Catholic Church, 901 NE 2nd St. Fort Lauderdale. In lieu of flowers, donations may be designated to St. Thomas Aquinas Foundation, 2801 S. W. 12th St., Fort Lauderdale, 33312 (954-327-2187).
