John P. "Jack" Hamill, 78, Sarasota, died April 29, 2004. He was born Aug. 13, 1925, in Cleveland and came to Sarasota in 1994 from Bay Village, Ohio. He retired in 1982 as a manager for Ohio Bell Telephone Co. after 36 years of service. He was a longtime member and past commodore of the U.S. Power Squadron in Ohio and also the Sarasota Power Squadron. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II. He also served in the Canadian Air Force during World War II. He was a member and usher at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Junne "Timmie" (Tyler); a daughter, Jeanne Gambill of Berea, Ohio; sons Robert J. of Brunswick, Ohio, James B. of Berea and Kurt R. Knight of Wells, Maine; and eight grandchildren. Family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. today at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Gulf Gate Chapel. A Mass will be at 2 p.m. today at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Siesta Key.
