ESPOSITO-Dr. John Michael, age 81 died October 17, 2014. He was born February 11, 1933 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Michael Esposito and Mary Bennet. He married his beloved wife Dorina M. Bonfiglioli in Bologna, Italy in 1959 and was the father of 4 children who loved him very much. The family resided in Brooklyn, NY, Frankfurt, Germany, Tucson, AZ and Redmond, WA. John Esposito attended Long Island University and graduated in 1954 with a B.S. in Chemistry. He ventured on to the Universita' di Bologna, Scuola di Medicina where he earned his medical degree in 1959. While in Bologna, he met Dorina and pursued her until she agreed to marry him and return to Brooklyn as his wife in a marriage that would last 55 years. With Dorina, he brought back a lifelong love of things Italian (especially food) which they would share with their future family. Once back in Brooklyn, he went on to complete his internship and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. At the same time, John and Dorina started their family, adding 3 children (Michael, Manuela and Monique) in 5 years. After completing his residency he was drafted by the U.S. Army in a tiny window of eligibility and served as a Staff Physician in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Frankfurt, Germany at the 97th General Hospital from 1967 - 1970, ending his service as a Lieutenant Colonel. He brought his family along to Frankfurt and added a fourth child (Mona) before returning to Brooklyn. Once back in Brooklyn, he worked at Kings County Hospital and eventually settled into a long term practice in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He held positions at Methodist Hospital, Victory Memorial Hospital, Bayle Seton and St. Vincent's Medical Center. John was Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Victory Memorial Hospital. He was a member of numerous medical societies and held various offices including President of the Brooklyn Gynecological Society and President of the American Association of Gynecological Laparoscopists. He wrote numerous articles for the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Most importantly, he delivered thousands of babies in his long career and welcomed them into the world. John loved and cared for his family, putting all 4 children through college and beyond. He and Dorina shared every day, facing life's joys and challenges together. His sense of humor kept his family laughing and left them with the gift of humor for coping with life's many twists. John continued to support them in their adult years and in their pursuits. He had an avid interest in the changing world of technology and worked hard to stay on the cutting edge. As his family grew, he kept up with his grandkids' pursuits on Facebook and was never without his Ipad. He and Dorina retired to Tucson, AZ to enjoy the desert heat and flora. They resided there for 3 years and then moved to Redmond, WA to be close to family. John is survived by his beloved wife Dorina, and his children Michael (Nora) Esposito of Flushing, NY; Manuela (Terry) Crowley of Woodinville, WA; Monique Esposito of Boulder, CO and Mona Esposito of Boulder, CO. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren Conor, Jessi and Lukie Crowley; John and Justin Esposito and Bella Betts.
