John J. Whalen of Pearl River, NY, formerly of the Bronx, died Sunday, September 14, 2003 at Nyack Hospital. He was 77. Mr. Whalen worked as a Deputy County Clerk for the Supreme Court in the Bronx before retiring in 1996. He was also a former Captain of the Bronx County Supreme Court. Mr. Whalen was born February 16, 1926 in New York City to John and Nora Sullivan Whalen. On July 1, 1950, he married Gladys Dowd at St. Joseph's Parish in the Bronx. He is survived by his wife Gladys of Pearl River, sons Jack of Seattle, WA and Kevin of Bronx, NY and daughters Barbara Shea of Pearl River and Mary Ann Sacino of Warwick, NY, five grandchildren Michele, J.P., Meaghan, Jack and Thomas. He is also survived by two sisters Mary Sullivan and Nora Petrocchi of Bronx and brother Neil Whalen of Yonkers, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am Friday, September 19, 2003 at St. Aedan's RC Church. Burial will be at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Nanuet, NY. Visiting will be Wednesday and Thursday 3-5 and 7-9 pm at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home Inc. In lieu of flowers friends may send donations to the National Down Syndrome, 666 Broadway, New York, NY 10012.
