North Stonington - John Henry Peabody, 59, of North Stonington, died unexpectedly but peacefully at his home, Saturday, July 19, 2014.Born in Middletown, on June 7, 1955, he was the son of the late Thomas H. Peabody Sr., and Nancy L. (Saunders) Peabody-Herrick.John was a carpenter at Electric Boat Groton, for over 34 years. He was a member of Carpenters Union, North Stonington Recreation League, North Stonington Fair Committee and North Stonington Senior Center.John will be remembered by many as ""coach"" during his many years working with the Wheeler Soccer Team. He offered a helping hand to all those in need and was a friend to everyone he met.John will be sadly missed by his daughter, MaRanda L. Villella and her husband, Angelo, of Warwick, R.I. He was the loving ""Poppy"" of Brandon, Dominick, Nevaeh and Ariana. He was the brother of Rosalind Crowley (Fran) of North Stonington, Susan Pelcher (David Jr.) of West Warwick, R.I. and Thomas H. Peabody Jr. of North Stonington. He also leaves his former wife, Hattie (Geer) Peabody-Lewis and many loving nieces and nephews.A celebration of John's life will be held at noon Saturday, at the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly. Calling hours will precede the service from 10 a.m.to noon.
