Avis de décès de John-A. Dunphy


John A. Dunphy of Greene John A. Dunphy, 86, was called home to the loving and merciful arms of Christ on February 3, 2010. He is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 60 years, AnnaMary; a son, Michael A. Dunphy of Yonkers, NY; a daughter, Elizabeth (Jim) Vanderweyde of Smithville; and the light of his life, his granddaughter, Tara Vanderweyde of Boston. John was the fourth of six siblings, and is also survived by his loving sister, Ann McGill of Shrub Oak, NY. John was a World War II veteran of the Pacific Theatre, serving in the United States Army from December 1941 to August 1945. He was a member of General Douglas MacArthur's staff, serving in Australia, New Guinea, Leyte, and Luzon. He took part in the campaign for the Mariana Islands and the liberation of the Philippines. His family wishes to thank Mr. Lee Supensky of Plymouth for his work in having John enrolled as an honoree in the registry of remembrances at the national World War II memorial. When John received his certificate, he was deeply touched and he cried. He always felt that the man who didn't make it back deserved the honor. John's family also extends its deepest thanks to the Greene Emergency Squad and all of his caregivers at Wilson Memorial Hospital. John was an incredibly articulate, loving, compassionate and generous man. He imparted to his children and his granddaughter a deep and abiding passion for history, literature and the cinema. He was also a lifelong fan of the "Fighting Irish," Notre Dame College football. His family is grateful beyond measure for his life and his love. A Memorial Mass will be offered 11 a.m. Saturday, February 13, 2010, at Immaculate Conception Church, Greene. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be made at the convenience of the family in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Greene Emergency Squad, 6 N. Canal St., Greene, NY 13778. Arrangements are under direction of Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango St., Greene, NY 13778.
