Joe Ray Williams, age 74, of Springfield, Mo., passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2008, at James River Care Center in Springfield, Mo. He was born September 7, 1933, in Clever, Mo., the son of Herbert E. Williams and Etta May (Bergett) Williams. Joe was an avid outdoorsman, liked fishing, hunting, baseball, basketball and all types of sports. He was a good Christian and loved the Lord. He served his country in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jim and Austin Williams, and sister Opal Nessler. He is survived by his one daughter, Melissa and Aaron Waterman of Laquay, Mo.; four sons, Curtis and Shana Williams of Rogersville, Mo., Tommy Joe Williams of Springfield, Mo., Michael and Lori Williams of Bois D'Arc, Mo., and Timothy Williams of Springfield, Mo.; three sisters, Vivian Rapp of Springfield, Mo., Linda Dborek of Wichita, Kan., and Hazel Gallegos of Antioch, Calif.; three brothers, Kenny and Jr. Williams both of Springfield, Mo., and Johnny Williams of Granby, Mo.; 16 grandchildren and two great-granchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Arrangements are being handled by Walnut Lawn Funeral Home LTD, 2001 W. Walnut Lawn St., Springfield, Mo., where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Springfield, Mo.
