Jerry Lee Thomas, 80, of Manchester, Mo. passed away at 1:28 a.m. Sunday, February 23, 2014 in the St. Lukes Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. Jerry was the first son born to Lucille and Frank Thomas, on March 10, 1933 at their home in West Frankfort, IL.Jerry is survived by his wife, Laurel Odum Thomas; son Bryan and Carolyn Thomas, their three children Emily, Ian, and Dylan; daughter Millicent A. Aaron and her daughters Elisabeth (Beth) and Brianna; step son Kevin and Myra Zwick, their two sons Sam and Adam; step daughter Abby and Allen, their two sons Winston and Cameron; and step daughter Marcia Zwick & Marc Aliberti; brother-in-law Tim Odum and wife Connie and family.Jerry and Laurel lived in St. Louis, MO, while their children live in the following areas: Bryan and family, O'Fallon, MO; Millicent and family, North Bondi, NSW, Australia; Kevin and family, Marion, IL; Abby and family, Danville, IN; and Marcia and Marc , New York, NY.Jerry was preceeded in death by his parents and two younger brothers and nephew, Donald Ray Thomas, Wayne Eugene Thomas, and Donald Ray Thomas, Jr..As a young teenager Jerry worked for Table Pride Bakery in West Frankfort. After starting High School, he got a job with Kroger tending to fruits & vegetables. Jerry graduated West Frankfort High School in May 1951and enlisted on September 10, 1951, in the Regular Navy as a SP for 4 years. He was discharged on September 11, 1955. He attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, from September 1956 to August, 1959, graduating on August 14, 1959, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. While at SIU as a student, Jerry worked again at Kroger's and dated Lois Ann Crowell, his first wife and mother of his children.Over the course of his career, Jerry worked with General Electric Company, SIU Finance Department, Cemrel as a comptroller, and was an owner of a small auto equipment store. Jerry was reunited with his high school sweetheart Laurel Lee Odum in 1980 at their high school class reunion, and they were married April 18th, 1981. Laurel and Jerry were married 33 years.Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 27, 2014 in the Parker - Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort with Rev. Al Frank officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion with military rites by the Orient and Zeigler American Legions, VFW in West Frankfort and the Military Funeral Honors Team in Marion.
