REID, Jean OliveAt age 94, Jean Olive Reid, born in Westmount Quebec on February 9, 1918 passed away in peace and comfort with loved ones on March 2, 2012 at the Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington Ontario. Surviving Jean are her three children, Craig McLennan Reid, Susan Marie Reid and Nancy Patricia Schreiner, son- in-law Werner Schreiner and daughter-in-law Annabelle Reid. She also leaves seven grandchildren: Joseph and Jeffrey Reid of Ontario; Robin, Keith and Michelle Reid of Alberta and Eric and Kenneth Schreiner of Burlington Ontario and four great- grandchildren Savannah, Garrett, Logan and Miranda. Jean was the third child of Samuel Russon Groves and Olive Marguerite Whittaker of Montreal Quebec. Jean met the love of her life, James McLennan Reid at age 13 when he became friends with her older brothers, Russon and Craig. They married in Montreal on September 15, 1941 and had the most wonderful life together for 53 years. They moved from Montreal to Welland Ontario so Jim could train pilots preparing for service in the RCAF. Upon Jim's, or "Jasper" as she liked to call him, return home from serving with 400 Squadron, they moved to the Martimes and then to London Ontario. Jean was educated at the Mother House in Montreal where she acquired exceptional skills in Greig and Pitman shorthand, as well as other marketable secretarial skills for which she prided herself throughout her life. She began her working career as a medical secretary at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal in the 1930's and retired as Executive Secretary to the President from Cryovac Ltd. in Mississauga at age 65, in 1983. Jim and Jean enjoyed their retirement years, before his passing in 1994, working with many charity groups and traveling with their camper trailer throughout the United States and Canada. Following several years living independently, Jean moved to Appleby Place in Burlington. Jean leaves many dear friends whom she cherished and who cherished her for her love of a good laugh, story telling and her caring ways. She was an avid reader, a pretty good knitter and a shark- like bridge player. She will be forever remembered by her beloved family and dear friends.A memorial service will be held atBAY GARDENS FUNERAL HOME, 1010 Botanical Drive (across from Bayview Cemetery, Mausoleum and Crematorium) BURLINGTON (905- 527-0405) on Friday, March 9, 2012 at 2pm immediately followed by a reception.
