ObituaryJames (Jim) T. Williams died at his home on Sat. June 30, 2001 following a long illness. Jim was born on Jan. 26, 1930 in Ft. Thomas, Kentucky. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. After receiving a degree in Business Administration from the University of Cincinnati in 1956, Jim moved to Ft. Myers, FL where he worked for Bogue and Taylor as an Accountant. Shortly after, he opened his own accounting business and in 1962 started the home furnishing business, Coach House Interiors. In the 1970's he was an organizer and President of the Southwest Florida Furniture Dealers Association, President of the Florida Home Furnishing Association and served on the Board of Directors of the National Home Furnishing Association. He was a member and served on the Board of Trustees of First Presbyterian Church. Jim was also a founding member of the Rod and Gun Club and served as President in 1975. In the 1980's Jim began more than a decade of civic involvement serving as Ft. Myers Councilman, Ward 5, from 1980 to 1984. He was a member of the Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council from 1982-1984, Chairman of the Metropolitan Planning Organization in 1983, Founding Member of the Tourist Development Council and a member of the Economic Development Coalition of Lee County serving as President in 1986. From 1987 to 1990 Jim was the Community Development Director for Lee County. From 1990 until his retirement in 1994 Jim was Executive Director of Development for the City of Ft. Myers. Throughout these years Jim enjoyed boating, fishing and friends, but his passion was Public Service. He is survived by his loving wife, Susan; his son, Dr. Todd Williams and wife Judy; his daughter Lynn Shortridge and husband Steve; his son, John Pacifici and wife Catherine; and six grandchildren Brent and Hunter Williams, Ridge and Summer Shortridge, and Summer and Justin Spicer. Funeral service will be conducted Thurs. July 5th at 7:00 PM at the Harvey-Engelhardt-Metz Funeral Home, 1600 Colonial Blvd., Ft. Myers. The family will receive friends prior to service from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. The family requests, that in Jim's memory, memorials be made to Hope Hospice, 9470 Health Park Circle Ft. Myers, FL 33908 or Alvin A. Dubin Alzheimer's Resource Center, P.O. Box 6277, Ft. Myers, FL 33911.
