JAMES RAY WILLIAMS Marion, IL - James Ray Williams, 64, died on Tuesday, October 2, 2007, at 11:15 a.m. at his home. James was born July 12, 1943 in Urbana, the son of Charles E. Williams and Katherine (McQueen) Wardlow. He married Janet Kobel on December 8, 1963 in Champaign and together they have shared over 43 years of marriage. She survives in Marion. James served 2 years in the Navy. He was a graduate of Milwaukee School of Engineering. He worked for Smith-Corona, Magnavox, NCR and ETL Testing Labs. James was a member of the Lake of Egypt Christian Church where he had served as Chairman of the Board for many years, President of the Crestwood Estates Association and the Lake of Egypt Country Club. Survivors include: wife, Janet Williams of Marion; son, Jeff C. Williams of Marion; sister, Linda Lappin and husband, Steve of Marion; favorite aunt, Ena Johnson of Salem; sister-in-law, Virginia Ziegler and husband, Bill of Urbana; two brothers-in-law, Elden Kobel and wife, Auretia of St. Joseph, Fred Kobel and wife, Ann of Champaign; two nieces, Amanda and Lindsey Lappin of Marion. Preceded by parents and stepfather, Thomas Wardlow. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Lake of Egypt Christian Church with Brother Leroy Waggoner officiating. Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion will be handling the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Lake of Egypt Christian Church or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
