O'NEILL - Reverend James R. 91, on Sunday, April 27,2003. Reverend O'Neill was ordained a priest in May of 1940. After his ordination, he served many parishes. He served in Europe during World War II as a US Army Chaplain. He was also in the Battle of the Bulge and Rhine River Crossing. After his return to the U.S., he was chaplain in the 102nd ArmCav (Essex Troop) NJARNG and then at USAR hospital, both in Newark. He retired from the military in 1971 with the grade of Lt.Col. He came to St. Paul Church as Pastor from 1973 through 1977. He served as Chaplain for the Knights of Columbus and the Holy Name Society. Since his retirement, he has resided at St. Paul in Ramsey. He is survived by two friends of 50 years, Rebecca and John Cox of Roseland,NJ and Grace Carlson, Grace Shulte and Hugh and Ann Newman. Viewing will be held on Tuesday April 29, 2003 from 1-7:30 PM at St. Paul Church, 200 Wyckoff Avenue, Ramsey, NJ. A Vigil Mass will be celebrated at 7:30 PM on Tuesday and a Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 30, 2003 at 10 AM. Interment to follow at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul Church , 193 Wyckoff Avenue, Ramsey, NJ 07446.
