67, was born to the late James Lewis Watkins, Sr. and Charlie Mae Watkins Dec. 4, 1946. He attended Lincoln Memorial High School until 1966, afterwhich, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1966-1973. During his tour of duty he fought for our country in Vietnam (earning several medals and awards), earned his high school diploma and worked as an automotive mechanic. He was a Christian and was called home Feb. 13, 2014. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Rev. George W. and Georgana Jones; grandson, Ladarius R. Watkins. He leaves to cherish memories of his life; one daughter, Nefertiti Tate (Brian, Sr.), three grandchildren: Brittany Griffin, Deonta Tate, and Quinton Tate; one great grandchild, Lei'la Mays all of Palmetto, FL; sister, Gloria Jones; brother, Harvard Watkins both of Bradenton; two nephews: Eddie and Craig Koonce, Bradenton, three nieces: Jessica Jones, Bradenton, Charlene and Khala Watkins of Bainbridge, GA and a host of sorrowing great nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Visitation 5-8pm, Thurs., Feb. 20, at Westside Funeral Home, 204 7th St. W., Palmetto, FL. Graveside Service, 2:30pm, Fri., Feb. 21, at Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, FL. Arrangements entrusted to Westside Funeral Home.
