Avis de décès de James-Joseph Abbott


ABBOTT James Joseph (Jimmie) Abbott, of Old Greenwich, passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2004, at Maefair Healthcare Center in Trumbull. Born November 27, 1917, in Buffalo, N.Y., he was the beloved son of Mary Ann and Albert Petrie Abbott. Mr. Abbott served his country with courage and honor, flying over 50 missions as a bombardier in the 459th Bomb Group of the Army Air Corps. during World War II. Upon his return to private life, Mr. Abbott married the love of his life Mary Lellek, and established roots in Old Greenwich they shared a union of 57 years until Mary's passing in 2002. Mr. Abbott continued his dedication to community as a volunteer fireman at the Sound Beach Fire Department, serving as president of the local chapter of the Kiwanis Club, and helped keep the American's borders protected as a member of the Civil Air Patrol, Old Greenwich, automobile owners knew of his easy smile and clever quips as the proprietor of Abbott's Service Station, on Arcadia Road, institution for more than 30 years. In his spare time, Mr. Abbott enjoyed maintaining a collection of antique automobiles and took endless pleasure in donning his driving gloves and "burglar hats" on Sunday drives with the horseless carriage, woodie and Edsel Clubs. Mr. Abbott in survived by his two daughters, Jacqueline Haight and her husband, Hank, and Jill Jennings and her husband, Jack; three cherished grandsons, Glenn Price, Michael Jennings and Keith Jennings; a step-granddaughter, Jan Tarzia; and his brother, Sherman. A memorial service will be held at First Congregations Church, 108 Sound Beach Avenue, Old Greenwich, on Friday (Today) November 19, at 12:30 p.m. the family will receive friends at the church from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 680 Bridgeport Avenue, Shelton, CT 06484. "Here's looking at you kid."
