Avis de décès de James-Henry Hammond


JAMES HENRY (JIM) HAMMOND James Henry Hammond, 93, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances. Jim was born May 2, 1911 in the Township of La Vallee to Charles and Eliza Hammond. He lived in Fort Frances for about 44 years before moving to Rainy River, Ont., returning to Fort Frances in 1995. As a young man, he worked with Myers Lumber and Pearson’s Electric. He then joined the Canadian Army and worked as an instructor at Camp Shilo for six years. After returning home, he first ran a home improvement business, then became an insurance salesman. His career also included working as a notary public, justice of the peace, and township clerk. Jim was united in marriage to Marjorie Readman on Aug. 1, 1936. Together, Jim and Marjorie were very active in the community. They were involved with the United Church in Rainy River serving as Sunday school teachers and lay readers. They also spent time on the Rainy River District and Emo agricultural boards, the Rainy River District School Board, and Jim was past-president of the Ontario Horticultural Society and very active in federal and provincial politics. They worked with Meals on Wheels and the Lions Club in Rainy River. They settled in Fort Frances in 1997 to be closer to family. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed gardening, making lawn ornaments, reading, and travelling. Jim is survived by his wife, Marjorie; daughter, Arlene and husband, Allan MacLean, of Thunder Bay, Ont.; son, David Hammond and wife, Linda, and daughter, Diana and husband, Frank Maraj; grandchildren, Theresa and husband, Todd Faubert, Stephen Hamilton and friend, Chantel, Jennifer Hamilton, Krista and husband, Craig MacIntosh, Debbie Hammond and friend, Glen, Trevor Maraj and wife, Debbie, Lee-Anne and husband, Ron Hines, and Dee-Dee Maraj; and great-grandchildren, Emily and Daphne Faubert, Abigail Hamilton, and Jayden Maraj. Also surviving are his brother, Charles (Chuck) Hammond; sister-in-law, Beatrice Hammond; and special extended family and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Eliza Jane Hammond and Charles James Hammond; mother-in-law, Eva Jane Readman; father-in-law, Capt. William Henry Readman; and brothers, Frank, Bill, and Art Hammond. A visitation will be held Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004 from 7 until 8 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004 at 10 a.m. at Green Funeral Home. Rev. Frances Flook will officiate, with interment in the Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances. The pallbearers will be Art Hammond, Gary Readman, Harry Readman, Bob Grynol, Pat Giles, and Trevor Maraj. The honourary pallbearers will be Todd Faubert, Craig MacIntosh, Ron Hines, Stephen Hamilton, Arlene and Allan MacLean, Ray Warner, David McInnes, and Rod Cunningham. If friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, 229 Camelot St., Thunder Bay, Ont., P7A 4B2, or the Canadian Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 655, Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 3M9
