James Napolean "Butch" Gary, age 60, of 523 Ridgewood Drive, died Friday, September 1, 2006, at St. Francis Hospital.Born in Washington, D.C., a son of the late Annie Helen Gary Dean, he was a member and deacon at the Cedar Grove Baptist Church, Simpsonville, a 1964 graduate of Bryson High School, a former employee of Drive Automotive (Magna) and a U.S. Army veteran. He is survived by his wife, Mary Johnson Gary of the home; a son, Lee Jamal Gary of the home; three brothers, Dr. Eric (Sharone) Dean of Greensboro, N.C., Rudy Gary of Greenville, and Willie Roy (Rev. Clara) Gary of Simpsonville; and five sisters, Katherine Gary and Mary Louise (John) Kozma of Greenville, Betty (Willie) Isom of Landover, Md., Dr. Beatrice G. Smith of Hartford, Conn., and Martha Gary of Greenbelt, Md. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, 1 p.m. at the Cedar Grove Baptist Church, with Dr. Robert E. Dennis officiating. Burial will be in the Greenville Memorial Garden with military rites. Visitation Tuesday from 7 to 7:30 p.m. at the Beasley Funeral Home, Fountain Inn. The family is at the home.
