MERIDEN - James F. Kearney, 73, of Suffolk Court, passed into his Heavenly Fathers Arms, Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009 at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford. He was the beloved husband of the late Gayle Thornton Kearney. Jim was born in Providence, R.I., Sept. 8, 1936, the son of the late James F. Kearney and Ida Fontaine Kearney, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, serving in Germany from 1955 until 1958. Jim had been employed by the State of Connecticut Department of Corrections for many years until his retirement and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 45 of Meriden. He is survived by his children, MaryAnn Kearney and James Kearney; his grandchildren Andrea Kearney, Sandra Bloenhof, Karen Bloenhof, Willy Toren, Mark Toren, and James Kearney, all of the Netherlands. Jim will be missed by his many friends at the Neptune House Diner, especially the owners, Kris and Maria, his pals, Bob, Harold, and Al, who met with Jim most days for lunch. Jim will also be sorely missed by his special friend and caretaker Carl Griffin, of Middletown. His family and friends would like to extend a special thanks to the Connecticut Hospice for their care and kindness. A memorial service will be held Monday, Sept. 28 at 10 a.m. in the Hubbard Memorial Chapel of Walnut Grove Cemetery, 817 Old Colony Road, Meriden. The Rev. Roland M. LaPlante will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to Holy Angels Church, 915 South Main St., South Meriden, Ct. 06451.
