CLARKSVILLE BAIRD , JAMES ALFORD, 98, died February 24, 2006, of complications of pneumonia at Cape Coral, FL. Jim was born August 23, 1907, in Clarksville, and was a partner in the Clark County Ice Cream Company, which later became Baird Ice Cream, and later he was involved in home construction. He was an avid golfer and former member of the Jeff Elks Club. He was a member of Howard Park Christian Church in Clarksville, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Sloan Baird; his parents, James P. and Amy Schuler Baird; and a brother, Levi Baird. He is survived by his sisters, Louise Short, Libby Bennett, and Amy Jo Munich; his brothers, Schuler Baird, Richard (Carpy) Baird, and Clay Baird; 17 nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2006, at Howard Park Christian Church, with burial in Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville. There will be no visitation. Chapman Funeral Home, Clarksville, is in charge of arrangements. The family respectfully requests that any memorial gifts be made to his church or Hope Hospice House, 2430 Diplomat Parkway E, Cape Coral, FL., 33909.
